I have to first put down a gloss coat to ensure the even flow of the oil into the cracks, and then i wash the mini. i give the oil a while to set up, and i lightly wipe off the oil in particular areas. For these minis, i will leave more of the oil on..like i said, the idea is to create an impressionistic feel more than to accuraely apply color. its kind of an anti-golden demon approach, where technical perfection is the ultimate measure. After i wipe off the oil its another matte coat, and then some weathering..mud and such. |

I pust a close up shot just to show how i used the three feet rule for effect. and the close up: |

Member Since: May 13, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Friday July 5, 2013 10:28 PM Thanks Sarge, I do a lot of different games: scifi, fantasy, naval (even in space) and historical of many flavors. but i am a painter at heart so this has been a fun challenge. I am going to do germans next, as part of my master plan to get 4k players hooked on WWI though WH:The Great War, whihc is basically an old edition of 40k with some windowdressing. Of course it makes sense, since 40k is really more akin to WWI than WW2 or anything else. |

Member Since: May 13, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Sunday July 7, 2013 2:39 PM let me say thanks to Courage, glad you lke them. Now here are some updates..i got a litle obsessed with working and forgot o do some stage by stage progress reports for a while. These are not done but you can see them coming together. I use a pumice gel for my grass (and a whole lot of other stuff as you will see). It's not as realistic as all the grass tufts and such, but i like the artificiality of it..its basically paint with stuff in it, and thus fits with the "toy solder" aesthetic. It also lets me better control the colors and integrate it into the model. I also tend to overdo it with realistic vegetation, and that obscures the mini. Going stylized on the vegetation shifts the focus back to the model. at least I hope it does.Machine Gun 1 from the front: and from the rear: Machine gun 2, from the rear: and from the front: I orginally intended to make this part of a trench machinegun position, but i sort of got captivated by the idea of doing an emplacement in a ruined building. Member Since: May 13, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Sunday July 7, 2013 5:34 PM At the moment, my next army is going to be germans. That being said, i am going to do a small force of french for an "In Her Majesty's Name" army. I think the french overcoat and red pants are one of the most striking uniforms around. Whats nice about IHMN is that i can do small mixed bag forces and add in some Zouaves and some Chasseurs Aplins. The french Army I most want to do for WH:TGW is the French Foreign Legion. |
