I was just sent a bit of info from a friend of mine concerning Vallejo Game Color paints and their suitability for airbrushing. Here's a link to the Vallejo document page. If you look at the MSDS Game Color pdf, at the very end you come across this bit of information:Do not spray. Contains Cadmium. Well, that seems to be pretty cut and dried, doesn't it? I just wanted to put this information out there for all my fellow gamers and painters. Stay safe! Cheers! Actor, gamer, painter, and raconteur. All You Need is a Zobmie and a Dream. |

Most of the game/model lines are safe and contain no cadmium. From what I understand cadmium produces warm colors, so yellows, oranges and especially reds are the most likely paints to have the warning. |

As far as the mask goes, I doubt it will afford you any protection. You'd need to get a respirator rated for the task.I've decided not to muck about with them, and will avoid spraying the paints listed with cadmium in them. Cheers! ![]() Member Since: May 13, 2013 ![]() RK: 1 MP: 0 ![]() ![]() | Thursday July 4, 2013 6:55 AM Yes, prolonged exposure to cadmium is bad. However, there are lots of options..some of the paints can be replaced with say Vallejo model, air, or badgers minitaire line, as toxic pigments are removed from these paints. For brush work, cadmium paints are tough to beat in terms of the vibrancy of their colors, but airbrushing necessitates caution, as vaporized cadmium is most easily inhaled, and a standard respirator is not going to cut the mustard. The bad news is we lost out on some vibrant paints. The good news is there are alternatives available. |
